Truly a bucket list destination, Hawaii has so much to offer students, from stunning sights, to a rich cultural heritage, to exhilarating attractions and experiences. With its breathtaking ocean vistas and vibrant tropical rainforests, it's easy to see why Hawaii is known as the "Paradise of the Pacific!"
Students can journey through time with a visit to a number of notable sites and historic landmarks, particularly on the island of Oahu.
One such place is Iolani Palace, built in 1882 by the last king of Hawaii, King Kalākaua. Meticulously restored to its former grandeur, this National Historic Landmark in downtown Honolulu tells of a time when Hawaii’s monarchy walked its celebrated halls. Students can take part in a number of tours to enjoy one of the most spectacular living restorations in all of Polynesia and immerse themselves in Hawaii’s royal heritage.
Another location in Honolulu which will transport students through American history is the Pearl Harbor National Memorial and USS Arizona Memorial. It’s here students can see exhibits and remembrances honoring the lives lost by the December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor attack—a pivotal moment in global history that marked the United States' entry into World War II. The USS Arizona Memorial in particular is a popular site, as it rests above the remains of the sunken battleship still visible in the water today. Personal narratives, historical artifacts and multimedia presentations are woven together to enhance the already powerful experience.
Students won’t want to miss experiencing the rich traditions of the Polynesian Cultural Center, where educational activities and luau dinner experiences bring the islands' heritage to life. At this can’t-miss attraction (voted #1 in Hawaii by USA Today), students can explore 42 acres of tropical splendor featuring six authentic villages representing the island cultures of Hawai’i, Fiji, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Samoa, Tahiti, and Tonga.
Your students can also soak up all that Hawaii has to offer by embracing adventure at Kualoa Ranch’s Secret Island with kayaking and paddleboarding; hiking to the summit of Diamond Head, a famous Hawaiian volcano tuff cone offering stunning coastal views and military history; soaking up the island’s natural beauty with a sightseeing, sunset & fireworks dinner cruise; and more!
